Perhaps one of the most important but underutilized resources that Fredonia offers is the Career Development Office (CDO). As its name suggests, this department is dedicated to aiding not only current students, but also alumni, to flourish as they prepare to search for jobs and internships.
Its mission statement puts it best:
“The mission of the Career Development Office is to provide a variety of developmental programs and services to educate students and alumni about career/life choices and provide counseling and information to individuals and groups so that they can become productive, contributing members of society, integrating their academic preparation with their interests, competencies, experiences, and values.”
And what student wouldn’t need help as they plan to enter the professional world? At the CDO, you can schedule appointments to go over a draft of your resume, get help in considering what job field you are best suited for (or even what major, if you are undecided), and schedule mock interviews as you prepare for the real thing. You can also get help finding suitable internships, finding options for grad school, finding potential career pathways and so much more.
Don’t take my word for it, though (to be honest, I think I need to spend more time with the CDO myself). Here is a link to a few student testimonials and their experiences with the CDO.
The people at the CDO are knowledgeable, helpful, and very kind. Not to mention, all of their services offered are free. And don’t worry about fitting an appointment in to your busy schedule, the counselors there are flexible enough that you can schedule the time that is most convenient for you. You can even live chat with them if you have a quick question or are unable to find the time to get over. You really can’t go wrong by visiting.
